Approximately two weeks ago (a few days after I moved down to Florida), I hosted the inaugural meeting of the South Florida Modern Quilt Guild! I loved being a part of the Metro Mod Guild in New York, and I was inspired to bring that creative energy and spirit to the South Florida community.
Thanks to a lot of advance planning by email, internet and phone, I was able to organize the meeting and introduce myself to some wonderful quilters in the community. I set up a blog for the group, made some Vistaprint postcards for publicity, and secured some space for the meeting. The only issue was that I wasn't sure how many people would actually show up....
The meeting was a hit! We had over 25 quilters show up to the first meeting, and it was standing-room only. It was exciting leading the meeting, and it looks like there is a definite interest in the South Florida community for a guild like this one.
Here are some photos of some beautiful show-and-tell items that the members brought in:
Here is the beautiful new Stitchcraft store in Boca Raton, where we held our meeting. I highly recommend that quilters stop by for a fabric pick-me-up when they're in town!
We already have our next meetings scheduled, and I am looking forward to many exciting quilting developments in the future. Check out our website for the latest news and updates!
