Signature Block for Victoria

Victoria recently called for her fellow bloggers to make signature blocks for a quilt!  I have seen signature quilts before, and they usually feature beautiful traditional quilt blocks and old-fashioned fabrics.

I raided my stash to find the right colors for the signature block, which was surprisingly difficult!  I forgot that almost all of my stash consists of ultra-bright, modern fabrics.  I finally found a few scrap pieces (it's a good thing the block only needed to be 6.5 inches!)

My diagram of the block and lots of cut scraps!
I looked online for some traditional patterns, and I settled on a basket block.  I was inspired by a recent lecture by Roberta Horton and Mary Mashuta, where they displayed a few incredible basket quilts!  You can view one of the basket quilts on Helen's blog.

The finished block (before adding my signature).

The block was a lot of fun to make, but I definitely prefer more liberated piecing.  As a final step, I added my signature, location and year to the block.  I hope Victoria likes it, and I can't wait to see the finished product!

Finished!  (I digitally removed my last name from the photo).

  2. Your block is simply charming and so is your signature. And you added the date, too! This will be most appreciated by Victoria as the years go by...
